What You Will Learn

First session

Prepare to get messy! Guided by out expert instructor , you’ll experience the tactile joy of working with clay and learn the essential techniques for preparing the clay (wedging), centering, pulling and shaping. Unleash your creativity as you witness a formless mound transform into a graceful cylinder under your hands. This one to one session ensures personalised attention, allowing you to quickly grasp the nuances of wheel throwing and create your own crafted masterpiece.

Second Session

Time to finish your thrown masterpieces. Trimming and applying decorative touches using coloured slip to make your work unique. Your pieces will be left to dry before a bisque firing. Once bisque fired, a transparent glaze will be applied and your work will be fired for the final time. It usually takes approx 6 weeks before work is ready to be collected.

What you will take away

We only offer wheel throwing as a one to one or one to two person session, as we believe the focussed attention you receive from our instructor provides you with the basic skills. 

The Studio is bright and welcoming in a relaxing and peaceful setting, so why not give pottery a go? It can be a brilliant way to switch off from the stresses of life as well as being a fabulous creative outlet. Who knows what you will be able to create? You may even surprise yourself!

I had a fantastic day learning to use a potters wheel. Jayne was great at teaching the correct techniques for proper throwing and I was so pleased with my results. A good way to forget about your worries and get to grips with an ancient craft. I look forward to my next class.
